Comments about this story :
"There have been so many "gambling games" available to kids from many decades back. From those sticker books (collect the entire series buy buying packets of stickers - all which have random stickers in it. I have never found 1 super rare sticker) to Magic the Gathering (some rare cards are very powerful). Even those ball things that contain toys are gambling as you cannot be sure which toy will drop out. How about dice games? Surely these games introduce the concept of "Big" & "Small"?? Role-playing games? Board games? All these have an element of luck.
If you think that Animal Kaiser is gambling and bad for children. Stop your own children from playing."

"More children will pick up gambling habit. Good for our 2 casinos."

"Decades ago, I used to spend my pocket money playing 'tikam' (five cents per trick) to match the number on a sealed piece of paper to one of the coveted prizes on the tikam board. The game was addictive and I had to do it surreptitiously as it was considered a form of gambling by my parents and teachers (stores or stands for tikam were often found around schools). Strange that 'tikam' does not have an entry in "Singapore: the Encyclopedia".
Gambling games for kids have come a long way since."

"This is essential early training (exposure) on gambling.
There is a need to ensure future generations of local gamblers so that the IRs will never be short of punters."

"Since this is a game, i believe some skill and not mere luck is required. Good that kids want to excel until they get gold. So it is not like gambling. Let us encourage kids to play this game. It also instills a never day die attitude."
"I have observed this game "Animal Kaiser" for sometime, fully agreed that it derived from gambling concept that attract children:-
1) This game is targeting children and not only adult, unlike dialing "77877" that only adults who are eligible to subscribe a mobile line can participate.
2) The cards are pre-arranged and placed in the machine, it doesn't distribute based on your score or "skill", it fully depend on your luck.
3) Unlike the popular ball game, you are able to see from the glass and all items in the balls are of the same value. Another word, you are prepared to pay for the toys.
4) Long long ago, "Mata" wearing shorts, today our "Police Officer" wearing pants. Try set up a "tikam" store and selling it to public. All lucky draws held in public required a standard "Audit" supervision process.
In conclusion, unless you don't have children or you are a gambler, else you will agree from a parent's view that we should discourage or try to stop this gambling concept.
Just ask yourself, why we don't allow children to buy 4D and why only casino got jackpot machine?"

Additional information on what is 77877 :
"I think many would have heard of the number to dial: 77877
Yes, it can appear 2 to 3 times during prime news advertisement slot. They have something like winning an iPhone or some fancy gear by dialing this 77877 and one will win the set. Those who dial pay something like $2 or $3 (sorry I'm not sure of the exact rate as I'm not interested in this advertisement)
That is gambling too. Its a chance game."

"Banning the game will only grant it a forbidden fruit status, which would only make it more attractive to the child. It’s easy to put the responsibility on parenting instead, but Animal Kaiser is not the only gimmick manipulating young minds into gouging their parents’ wallets: McDonald’s Happy Meals may be far more sinister in its impact on childhood (and parent) obesity.
PSPs are popping up even at dinner tables. If anything, the value of a gold Animal Kaiser card may introduce the child to the world of market forces, negotiation and trading with friends, a social environment which an addictive single player PSP doesn’t provide. "

"the straits times article is viewing AK in a different perspective .... .. obviously the author does not has any children .... otherwise she knows little about them .... sad.
Are you sure children play AK to get the Gold Card? Or any other cards even Bronze they are as happy? How much can they spent on AK? i think $10 is alot .... and $10 won’t get you Gold card for certain.
last but most important question .... who give them the monies .... YOU the parents ..... you are responsible for their behaviour and outcome .... not AK. Get this straight.
... yes you got V2 Gold Lion ... then you want to get the rest V2 RS, Tiger, Bald Eagle ..... then you want the Silvers .... now V3 so many Golds ...... Kids may spend hundreds of dollars ...... neglect studies, addicted to AK .... everyday cook-up in the arcade ....... spend more time and monie ..... this is the negative effects on a typical child if not managed properly.
this is what the article trying to explain .....
my point is the PARENTS have to watch over what their children do .... in AK or whatever .... the need to manage their kids’ behaviour ....... this is part of parental responsibilities. "

7-Eleven is the latest 24/7 amusement park for children
STOMPer snoozie has seen many children playing arcade game machines at 7-Eleven lately. The STOMPer wonders if the convenience store has become a 24/7 amusement park for them.
The STOMPer said:
"Recently, I have seen a lot of children in 7-Eleven.
"They were not buying things like ice cream but rather, playing arcade game machines.
"Is 7-Eleven becoming a 24/7 amusement park for them?
"We prevent children from going to amusement parks during school hours but now there is a 24-hour gaming place for these children.
"Some were even in their school uniform.
"What is happening?
"What is the purpose of banning children from playing in amusement parks during school hours in the first place?
"Is this a matter of double standards?
"I, for one say that by golly it is!"

What others say about this story ?
"7-11 should not have this machine as the problem is not abt playing game at school hours it the amount of money spend , i saw alot children in school uniform uses their money for lunch to play this game which cost $2 per game.a child can spend alot money in this machine. This machine teaches children to gamble . There are alot of machine like fishing & ping pong ball, which encourage your child to gamble if not stopped ur children would grow be a gambler. For i know government does not object this as long u pay them licece fee , as long as there's $ to take they dont care."

"Kids at 7-Eleven playing arcade games don't annoy me as much as those teens loitering around at night, buy cup noodles/drinks from 7-Eleven and litter around the whole area... "
