Every kid as they age will participate or whiff a trend that defines their childhood. For me, it was Dragonball cards before I moved on to Pokemon & Magic: The Gathering cards. For this generation, it appears that it’s back to the video game arcades for Animal Kaiser. It’s funny how most trends are really a cycle and I guess in this case, it really holds true.
Animal Kaiser is a collectible card game with a heavy luck aspect to it. Players are able to battle it out with the computer and at the end of a session they would be able to score a card that may or may not stack their future matches in their favour.
Collect all of the top-tier cards and use them in optimal sequence and you are on the way to wiping the competition. Throw in flashy Captain Tsubasa-style attacks, it’s just like recreating a weekend anime marathon with animals.
It is good to see the makers behind the game taking a vested interest in the community by providing them a proper place to gather to battle it out and trade cards. The market for the game is huge with not only kids taking part but parents as well.
With eight machines at Orchard Cineleisure, methinks that the number may not be enough especially with the school holidays approaching. After all, rabid support for this game has brought about near fights, not with kids, but with parents! Talk about passion!
It is this same passion that has spawned a burgeoning online community and with such a club, it would do wonders to build up an impressive offline community. After all, one of the main aims for the club is aimed to provide fellow gamers a get together locale to trade cards and forge new friendships.
From what I’ve been told, kids playing the game have gained many positive traits such as sportsmanship in terms of accepting loss gracefully. After all, you can’t always win in life right? But with all childhood distractions and leisure activities, moderation is the key. So I guess with this new venue, parents have been provided with an outlet to better monitor their child’s activities – I hope.
Before heading down to the event, I popped by one of the arcades to take a look at how Singaporeans actually engaged in the gameplay. Apparently, with enough experience, experts of the game are able to whiff out when a premium card is about to appear and they jump in to attempt to snipe the card. Nothing extraordinary really but basically the quest for such cards are attained by either hogging the machine or standing-by at the right moment for the payout.
Seeing that Singapore has just only started with the 4th edition of the game and with the 12th already out in Japan, IAH Games and Games Credit Asia might just have hit the jackpot
